Playing with Rocks

I took a quick visit to nearby Nelson Ledges Park to try HDR shooting. With HDR you use a tripod and shoot multiple exposures of the same image using bracketing. I went for two stops under and two stops over. The three exposures are blended together via Adobe PhotoShop. This technique helps you recover from very dark or very bright areas in your image.

The Ledges are beautiful. While shooting I met another photographer who found the Ledges on the Internet. He loves shooting rock formations and had recently shot in Sedona, Arizonia. Those rocks are a beautiful red color. I showed him the little falls and the Devil's Icebox. He was thrilled.

Some Black 'n' Whites from a Gray Day

The sky turn neutral gray yesterday. So here are some black 'n' whites to check out.

Just some weird things - Part 1

Somewhere out there are strange people doing strange things. As this blog is sometimes about chronicling human activity here's a few of them.

This guy is somewhere in Northeast Ohio in Lake County. His house, truck and barn are all covered with these strange harangues.

This image is from Kelly's Island. Yes, it is a man walking his goat.

Spiked heels on foot, purse and bass guitar in hand, this young woman crosses the railroad tracks in Kent, OH.

Just some weird things - Part 2

Some strange things you can see in people's yards.

This Roman-like plaza with pillars is from the backyard of boxing promoter Don King. There's a whole bunch of these things you see from the road in nearby Orwell, OH

I don't get this one at all. Instead of a black face it looks they tried to paint it white but the paint ran off. You know they just need to bury all of these statues. So old-fashioned, so crude, so offensive. Again, somewhere in Northeast Ohio.

Just some weird things - Part 3

These go down as public art I suppose.

Fall harvest(ing)

How do they get all that corn from the field? Pretty simple really.

By mid-October the corn is pretty dried out and ready to be harvested. Most of this corn is used for feed and not for human consumption.

A closeup of the corn dried up on the stalks.

The John Deere harvester on the right sweeps through the fields and processes the corn. The kernels are poured into a waiting truck.

Not much color in the original image so I converted to B&W using Adobe Lightroom 1.2.

Scarlet and Grey

This image came out pretty good. Grey is the toughest color to image. No doubt some of you may wonder where the grey is in the picture. That means your monitor is calibrated differently than mine. Whatever the colors I love the swirls in the background.

Let me tell ya, at f2.0 the LensBaby is a bear to focus! To get this image I stood on a rickety picnic table and the wind was blowing the leaves.

More leaves - I can't stop

Only another week and one of the best falls for photography will be over. Then I'll stop this craziness with leaf images.

This image was captured on Fields Rd. in Bainbridge Township, OH.

Soon it will be barren and desolate as winter sets in across Northeast Ohio. Anyone willing to pay for me to take a trip to someplace exciting? Tuscany? Morocco? Cabo?

An Amish Saturday

Amish life is simple and fun. Plenty of walking or riding on horse-drawn vehicles. Here's a few scenes in and around Mesopotamia, OH. Enjoy!

A familiar site throughout Geauga, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties are these Amish buggies.

Leaves and camera

Why do fall leaves and digital cameras go so well together? Take a look!

This grove of trees were so spectacular I almost parked in the middle of the road to shoot them. The sky looks great and with my handy polarizer filter the blue sky looks glorious.

The Falls at Chagrin Falls

Friday was a beautiful day in the Cleveland area. The sky was blue, the weather was mild and the leaves are lovely. I took a short stroll around the Triangle in Chagrin Falls. Enjoy!

The falls are a perfect place for couples taking pictures.

Here's a closer picture of the falls itself.

On the other side of the street is the "pre-falls". The wall or dam makes a pretty pond before the river starts cascading over the rocks.

Feeding the ducks is fun for both the young and the experienced.

The bridge over the river had nice planters with flowers.

Loving those leaves

This may be one of the best fall seasons ever. The leaves won't peak for another week. These images are from Holden Arboretum. Enjoy!
