The winter that just won't quit!

When will it end? That's the cry from Northeast Ohioans in mid-February. We've seen all the pretty snowfalls we can take. We want sunshine. We want warmth. This old barn and farm tell the story of our annual angst.

Doesn't God give us the sunsets?

Yes, God gives us the sunsets to put us at peace, to drain away the anxiety and to relieve the stress. Thank you!

Ahhhhh! Fall in Ohio.

I love the fall in Ohio. This year's colors are terrific again like last year's.

This is the facade over the old post office in Chagrin Falls. It is now an office building.

A flag and cannon outside the town hall.

Some very hardy flowers in a box on the bridge over the Chagrin River.

An autumn display outside a shop on Main St.

A trickle of water off to the side of the main Chagrin River Falls.

Nautica Queen on the Cuyahoga River

It was a great night for cruising up the Cuyahoga and here is the Nautica Queen with a full load of Friday evening partiers.

Soft evening light. Quiet waters. Skyline off to the side.

Canon 5D

Exposure: 1/400 @ f/11

This second version was enhanced by adding a red filter in Adobe Lightroom to give it more nostalgic look. Which do you prefer?

The National Packard Museum

Another Northeast Ohio gem is the National Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio.

Note Lincoln Highway Stamp.

Remember the day.....49 cents a gallon. The display doesn't even go over a dollar!

Playing with Rocks

I took a quick visit to nearby Nelson Ledges Park to try HDR shooting. With HDR you use a tripod and shoot multiple exposures of the same image using bracketing. I went for two stops under and two stops over. The three exposures are blended together via Adobe PhotoShop. This technique helps you recover from very dark or very bright areas in your image.

The Ledges are beautiful. While shooting I met another photographer who found the Ledges on the Internet. He loves shooting rock formations and had recently shot in Sedona, Arizonia. Those rocks are a beautiful red color. I showed him the little falls and the Devil's Icebox. He was thrilled.

I love it when the pictures just come right to you!

This happens every couple of years. It's a nice quiet weekend at home. I'm reading a book or watching Nascar. Mary comes down the stairs and says the balloons are right outside.

I know what that means. They are landing in the cul-de-sac on our street. For once my camera is ready and available. The chase is on!

Two hot air balloons from the Blossom Festival are coming down.

It's a community affair. Neighbors from everywhere pour in.

Dropping the baggie.

This hot-air balloon gives a couple more blasts before falling.

Getting it ready for falling. Our house in the background, neighbor Vicki and new baby in the foreground.

Here it goes. Our neighbor Mark, to the left, helps keep it down on the ground.

What's in there? Just a lot of hot air.

A sprint to the front in full pajamas! What a great night.

American Star

I found this star-flag decoration on the door of the township hall in Chagrin Falls.

This is the original with all the colors pretty much as they are in real life.

This version emulates a strong Velvia-film enhancement. Very bold, more saturation and nice vignette along the edges to make it pop.

This version bleaches out the colors to give it an antique look.

Desperate for Spring - Part 2

The desperation continues. It's Easter weekend and we are getting snowed over again. Is there any hope for Spring?
